Four days west of Cape Coast where the country exhales. Busua is Ghana's surf capital โ gentle right-handers for beginners, longer point waves for the curious. Butre is a fishing village around a lagoon edged by mangrove. Cape Three Points marks the southernmost tip of mainland Ghana, with a working lighthouse since 1875 and a peninsula of empty palm-fringed bays beyond it. Optional half-day to Nzulezo โ a village built entirely on stilts over Lake Amansuri, reached by canoe through a mangrove channel.
"Stood up on day one. Slept to the surf at night. Best chocolate pancake of my life. Going back."
"Cape Three Points is the corner of the country no one knows about. Lighthouse, empty bays, fishermen mending nets. Magic."
No. Busua's wave is gentle and ideal for beginners โ most travelers stand up on day one. Experienced surfers will find longer point breaks at Butre and the headlands beyond.
June to October has the most consistent swell. November to March is gentler โ easier learning. Year-round the water is warm (~26ยฐC).
Absolutely if you have the day. The canoe channel through mangroves is itself the experience; the village is humbling. Skip it only if you're surfed out and need beach time.
