Two days into the green hills of Eweland, where Ghana climbs to its highest point. You'll hike to the base of Wli Falls β the tallest in West Africa, where a colony of straw-coloured fruit bats hang in the cliff β then push for the harder, quieter Upper Falls. At dawn on day two, summit Mount Afadja (885 m) for sunrise over Lake Volta. End at Tafi Atome, where mona monkeys are sacred β they climb down from the trees at feeding time and sit on your shoulder.
"Summited Afadja in the dark and saw the sun come up over Volta. Then mona monkeys climbing on our heads three hours later. Two days, two unrelated highs."
"Upper Falls was brutal but absolutely worth it. The Lower Falls is what's in the brochures; the Upper is what locals love. Pay the extension."
Moderate-hard for unconditioned hikers. About 700 m of elevation in 2 hours of steep but well-marked trail. If you can comfortably climb stairs for an hour you'll be fine β pace, hydrate, take breaks.
The Volta region's wet season runs roughly JuneβOctober. We still run in shoulder months; the falls are most dramatic at the end of the rains (SepβNov). Bring a light shell layer.
Possible (8-hour day) but rushed β you'll only do Lower Falls, skip Afadja, and feel the road. We offer that as a separate single-day option at β΅790.
