About this safari

Four days inside the 1,510 kmΒ² grassland of the Maasai Mara β€” the northern stage of the Great Migration. You'll fly in from Wilson Airport (skipping the 6-hour road), land on a strip steps from your tented camp, and spend two and a half days tracking lion prides, leopard couples, cheetah hunts and (in season) wildebeest river crossings with a Maa-speaking ranger who grew up on this land. Two nights at a riverside tented camp with hot bucket showers, paraffin lamps and dinner under the stars. Optional dawn balloon flight on day 3 β€” the photographs people travel here for.

Highlights

βœ“
Wilson fly-in
45-minute Cessna Caravan to a Mara airstrip β€” vs. 6-hour road from Nairobi.
βœ“
Six game drives
3 dawns + 3 sunsets in an open-side 4Γ—4 Land Cruiser with a roof hatch.
βœ“
River-crossing season (Jul–Oct)
If your dates fall in window, your guide will reposition for crossing points at Mara River.
βœ“
Maa-speaking ranger
Born in the conservancy, trained at KWS β€” context that goes beyond the field guide.
βœ“
Maasai village visit
Genuine community visit, not a tourist set-piece β€” bead-work, jumping dance, fire-making.
βœ“
Bush breakfast
Sunrise picnic on day 3 β€” laid-out table, hot coffee, fresh fruit, sometimes lions in the distance.

Common questions

When does the migration actually happen? β–Ύ

The 1.5M-strong wildebeest herd is in the Mara roughly July–October each year β€” they cross from Serengeti north into Kenya, then push back south. Peak river-crossing weeks are usually late Jul β†’ early Sep, but it's nature: no operator can guarantee a day. Outside those months, cats and the rest of the Big 5 are still on the Mara plains in huge numbers.

Fly in or drive? β–Ύ

Fly. The road is 6 hours of corrugated dirt after Narok β€” beautiful for the first hour, rough for the next five. Our default fly-in saves a full day each way and your back. Driving stays an option if you want the overland feel β€” subtract $300/pp.

How safe is the camp? β–Ύ

Camp is unfenced. After dark a Maasai askari escorts you between tent and mess. Animals are around β€” that's the point β€” but the camp has run 12+ years without an incident. Common-sense rules at briefing.

Can I extend with the coast? β–Ύ

Yes β€” popular combo is Mara + Diani Beach (south coast). 4-day Mara β†’ fly Nairobi-Mombasa β†’ 3 nights Diani = a 9-day "bush + beach" classic. Tell us at booking, we'll quote.

How do I pay? β–Ύ

Card or M-Pesa for the deposit (we accept Visa/Mastercard/Amex via DPO + Pesapal, or direct M-Pesa STK push to your number). On the ground: tips in USD cash or M-Pesa. The camp settles all your camp extras at check-out β€” chargeable to the original card.
