Three days in Sabi Sand — a private reserve along the western edge of Kruger National Park, with no fences between them. Sabi Sand was the first reserve in Africa to habituate leopards for game-viewing, and the cats sit on jeeps now like they don't know you're there. Five game drives over the stay, walking safari with armed rangers on day two, a riverside lodge with plunge pool and decks looking onto the Sand River. Wifi only at the main lodge — by design.
"Two leopards 15 feet from the truck on day one. Then a kill on day two. Our tracker Solly could find anything."
"The walking safari changed me. Tracking rhino on foot with an armed ranger is a different kind of close."
Sabi Sand is a private reserve adjoining Kruger with no fence between them. Vehicles can go off-road (banned in main Kruger), get closer to cats, and there are fewer vehicles per sighting. Pricier but the wildlife experience is much higher quality.
May–September (dry/winter) — vegetation thins, animals concentrate at waterholes, malaria risk low. November–March is greener and birds arrive but harder for game viewing.
Yes — popular combo. JNB → Skukuza for safari, then JNB → CPT for 3 nights Cape. Full 8-day "Cape & Kruger" package from $4,800/pp. Tell us at booking.
Greater Kruger is a low-risk malaria area year-round, higher in summer (Nov–Mar). Prophylaxis recommended in summer; many travelers skip in dry winter months. Talk to your travel clinic.
